CoolToday Park in Sarasota County is home to the Atlanta Braves’ spring training camp in Venice, about 35 miles south. Parking is free and the Tomahawk Ski Bar & Grill and Clubhouse Team Store are open six days a week. Venice is worth a day trip, being so close.
Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue, 4951 Lorraine Rd, Bradenton, schedule has a listing of all volunteer opportunities. It’s out-of-town but worth the drive. This is probably a commitment for a seasonal or year round person.
Sarasota Walkers Meetup organizes roundtrip walks of about 3–4 miles. They offer about three walks a week, including a late afternoon walk starting at the famous sailor statue in Bayfront Park and going over the Ringling Bridge. Other walks travel the Venice Esplanade and Jetty Walk, or start at The Nest, shown below, at 1055 Blvd of the Arts.
Near Mentone Court
It’s all about walkability. Here we’ll mention some ultra-nearby activities. Just a three-minute walk from the condo is the West Coast Black Theater. Check out the calendar for progams. For 2025 adult seats are $52 and if you are under 25, then $22. Everyone raves about this venue and the shows.
Also, check to see what is going on at the WSLR radio station + Fogartyville Community Media & Arts Center which is about a two-minute walk from the condo. They produce over 60 live concerts a year in their small nearby building, usually costing less than $30 for a ticket. Click on the link to check their event schedule.
