The Neighborhood
The center of town is exactly between Alto, our boat in the marina, and the condos. It is just an 11-minute walk from either down Orange Avenue which is right in front of the condo complex. The walk from the Mentone Ct condo complex to downtown is flat, no hills or rises at all. The top of Main Street where the restaurants start is just a six-minute walk, then walk five minutes down Main Street and you’re at Mattison’s City Grille.
Steps out the locked gate onto Orange Avenue and 100 feet down the sidewalk is beautiful Citrus Square.
A locked gate leads out to North Orange Avenue and to Citrus Square, with its shops, offices and four restaurants.
Citrus Square
All four Citrus Square restaurants have outdoor seating, and two have an internal plaza. One is a breakfast/lunch place with croissants imported from France. There is a luncheon place and two elegant (one Italian) restaurants with full bars. Using her rollator, Gail can get there in just a couple minutes on foot right out the gate. The red arrows below all point to restaurants and taverns in and around Citrus Square.
All four Citrus Square restaurants have beautiful outdoor dining patios. A block further down the street is a convenience store.
A huge feature is Mentone Court’s Walkability Score of 92, which is considered a “Walker’s Paradise.” When the traffic lights are with you, the walk down Orange Avenue to Main Street is just about six minutes. There is a Publix market just two minutes away by car on 10th street.
Public Scooter Rentals
A cool option is to use the public Veo scooters that are all over Sarasota. There is a corral of them on Orange Ave. in front of the Citrus Square building just 100 feet away from
Mentone Court. They cost $1 to unlock and then $0.37 per minute which is cheap since you’ll be at your destination in under five minutes no matter where you go. Learn more and get the app here.
